How to Romance Your Valentine on a Budget

February 8, 2018

If the only thing you have in your budget to spend this Valentine’s Day is time with your significant other, you’re in luck. There are plenty of ways to make February 14 the most romantic day ever without spending a dime.

If you’re spending Valentine’s Day in Toronto, here are five free activities you can take advantage of:

  1. Take in Culture

Valentine’s Day in 2018 falls on a Wednesday — which is a huge boon if you live in Toronto. Why? Wednesdays are the day of the week many popular cultural attractions have free admission. The Canadian Opera Company has a free concert at noon on February 14. The AGO has free admission on Wednesdays, as does the Aga Khan Museum.

  1. Deliver Flowers

If a bouquet of roses isn’t in your budget, no worries. Bring your date to the flowers instead! Some Toronto conservatories, such as Allan Gardens and Cloud Gardens, offer free admission. Take a romantic stroll through the flowers while enjoying a tropical climate.

  1. Skate It Out

Outdoor rinks around Toronto have free ice skating in the winter. One of the most popular is Nathan Phillips Square. Get all cozied up with your date and skate hand-in-hand all night long.

  1. Volunteer Together

Helping others can be one of the best bonding activities ever. Take the day and volunteer at a local shelter, food bank, or other organization. You’ll be giving back and increasing your connection.

  1. Stroll Down Memory Lane

The point of Valentine’s Day is to remember your connection to your partner. Over the year (or years), you’ve likely captured a number of photos, but how often do you stop and look at them? Take the evening to relax, just the two of you, and look through your old memories. Who knows — you might even create some new ones in the process!
